2016 Goals

2015 Goals

Setting goals helps us all to move forward and take the steps we need to grow.  I’ve tried to collect mine here.

Last year, the Stuff I Learned Yesterday podcast encouraged us to set goals for 2015.  I’ve talked about how those goals went here.  Entering into 2016, I want to be more simple in my goal setting.  Thanks to the things that went on in 2015, I know some areas I want to move forward in and that is a blessing.

Goal 1:  Continue in praying the scriptures and the relationship with the Lord that helps to provide.  I’ve always enjoyed prayer and seen it as more than throwing requests into Christ’s lap.  But after reading “Praying The Bible” and hearing teaching on it, I see the value of using scripture to guide my prayers.  Taking the Word and using it as the guided rocket and loading my requests inside is a helpful analogy for me.  I want to spend more time praising God as I pray and building a relationship with Him.  Relationships are built through time spent and conversations had.  So that is a focus for me this year.

Goal 2:  Improve myself as a podcaster.  After a decade of listening to, participating in and leaving feedback for podcasts, I was blessed to become a podcaster in 2015.  I knew what some of what is involved, but quickly learned there is so much to learn.  So in 2016, I want to use the opportunities that Golden Spiral Media has given me (on Gotham Undercover, Stuff I Learned Yesterday, and other podcasts) to grow.  I want to be more focused as I write in preparation for the podcasts.  I want to focus on the words before they leave my mouth so I have less “You know’s, ” “Um’s,” and “Ah’s.”  I want to slow down and speak more slowly.  I want to be better at promoting the podcasts and build community.  I want to be a good co-host.  But most of all I want to make the network look good.  I know these are big steps that all podcasters go through and they will not all be accomplished this year, but it is time to start.

Goal 3:  Make the Chapel Hill – Carrboro Association of Educational Office Professionals stronger and transition out of the presidential role well.  I want to make sure our constitution and bylaws are good and solid with the help of my board and the members.  I want to finish out my 3rd year of being president well.  I have been challenged and grown a lot in this role that is NOT my gifting.  I’m a supporter, server, and helper but find leading challenging.   So being president has been growing me.  I am ready to turn it over to someone who is ready to step up and lead and who has a vision for the local chapter.  I want to help them as much as possible.

Goal 4:  Consistently serve with a joyful heart.  I love serving and helping.  That is what the Christ has built into me and wants to grow.  I welcome it!  But I realized in 2015 I let things, thoughts, and sin hinder my service.  How can I serve consistently serve with a joyful heart without hinderance?  Focusing on Christ is the answer.  One way for me to do that is music.  Music is so important in my life.  I’ve been working on two Stuff I Learned Yesterday podcasts about music which you should hear this year.  Music helps me focus and helps me work.  So I’m going to endeavor to listen to more music that focuses my mind and spirit on Christ this year.  Picking the right song and album will help in hard times and that combined with scripture and prayer will build that relationship with God.  Then in the comfort and safety of that relationship will I be able to serve in a more consistent and joyful way.

p.s. This is what I’m listening to as I blog:

That is it. I’ve tried to have fewer goals and more focus this year.  I challenge you to sit down and consider 2015.  Then in light of your year, set your goals for 2016.  If you stumble and fall that is OK.  Look at as a F.A.I.L. (First Attempt In Learning) and keep moving forward!
