Day 5 – Digging holes and Pouring a Floor

Thom & Tina in the Word

Wednesday morning, Thom, Vic, Jordan, Kyle and I went over to some land that the Mission just bought.  We worked with Ricardo, Jorge, Luis and others on digging holes for columns.

Brick walls will be built between the columns.  The ground was tough. So we broke out the electric demolition hammer that Thom brought.  It has a shovel attachment that greatly helped.

Sarah & Bethany shoveling

We were joined by Mark, Judah, Sam, Bethany, & Sarah.  With everyone’s hard work we dug several holes and got them ready for the rebar forms.

During that time several of our team worked with the children and built rocking chairs out of clothes pins.  It was a need craft and they seemed to enjoy it.
That afternoon, we worked on our second floor.  It was right down the street.  We formed our bucket lines around the side of the house and sent the stone and rock up.

Let me take a photo

On this house, a wheelbarrow could be used to take the concrete into the house.  The this left us time to play with the kids.  They love playing marbles, with tops, and with our gloves.  They even helped us out moving buckets.

That evening was the last night of the conference.  Mark, Vic, and Caleb all spoke about relationships with children.

Bethany helps with a kit

Lowes had donated craft kits again this year.  Several of us stayed back and worked with a group of boys making the basketball goals.

It was a difficult evening for me.  I started getting sick on my stomach.  I praise the Lord for being able to have medicine and rest.
