The team from Antioch Community Church gathered together at 4am in Haw River at the Southern House. We gathered to pray, we packed up the cars and headed to RDU. We had a safe flight to Miami. We ate and relaxed before getting on the Avianca flight (great airline!).
We got into a warm and humid Cartagena Colombia. Once we had our bags and got through customs, we met up with Jorge & Karen and Astrid. We got water and money and piled on the bus.
We made our way through the city to the dock. We piled our luggage and ourselves into 2 boats and sped across the sea to the island community of Bocachica.
We had a safe smooth trip out. Once on the island we loaded up wheelbarrows with our luggage and the supplies we brought in. We were cheerfully greeted by the Proyecto Libertad staff. Most of the team was making their second or third trip to the island and it was a joy to greet the staff members we knew as well as the people of the community. We also got introduced to the new staff.
It was good to settle in and relax For me, it was like coming to a second home. It was a pleasure to lay down my U.S. life and take up my Bocachican life. I’m blessed to be able to serve the Lord in both places, but in very different ways. Coming to Bocachica stretches me and grows me up in the Lord.
I think once you go and serve with Proyecto Libertad, the Lord grows a place in your heart for the people and mission. Nothing else can fill it. You become part of the PL/Bocachica family. It is a blessing to take up the yoke of work with your brothers and sisters in the Lord and serve the Lord in unity.
