Day 4 – Work and Celebration

Robin working the mixer

Tuesday was a full day with a lot of work going on and a celebration that night.
We broke into several teams.  Nate & Andrew worked on laying block for the first 2 latrines.  Some of the group went back and finished chiseling out the 3rd latrine.  Some of the ladies went and poured the tops for the 4th latrine.  The rest of us went and started pouring the concrete for floor #1.  The house was right near the mission.  We worked with Robin, Samy, and Luis.  We got the bucket brigade going to add rock, sand, and mix to the mixer.  We would make a load of concrete and then use the wheel barrow to move it up a board ramp into the house.  We did two rooms for the house.

Then in the afternoon, a good portion of the group moved on to chiseling out the hole for latrine #4.  It was not as hard of rock as #3 but still rough.  The ladies enjoyed playing with the local girls and getting their hair braided.  Some of the local boys entertained us with drumming.

Before supper there were soccer games and people checked out the progress Dale was making on the mural at the feeding center.

After supper people relaxed, talked and played cards.  Then our team joined in with the mission staff for a celebration.  Three of the short-term staff were leaving (over then next week).  So the PL staff had a going away party for them complete with sharing, songs, games (like islands, bottle game, lemonade, and more).  We had a blast and then got to enjoy yummy cake!
