Day 1 – Returning to Bocachica, Colombia

Mission from the water

I had the pleasure of going on a mission trip to the small island community of Bocachica (off the coast of Cartagena) in 2004.  It was a challenging trip with lots of hard work and some sickness from a virus going around.  But leaving, I knew I wanted to return.  The Lord had built a connection there.  It took a little under 5 years for it to happen.  I was overjoyed when the Lord opened the doors of timing at work, finances, and prayer for me to go.

Our group of 19 from Antioch Community Church (for the most part)left very early on Sat. March 21.  After a full day of traveling we reached Bocachica and the YWAM mission of Proyecto Libertad (Project Liberty).  We were greeted by the smiling faces of the staff and volunteers.  We were treated to fresh fruit, juice and fellowship.

It felt so good to be there.  It was not like going to a place you knew but more like returning to home after a lone absence.  Over the week, Lord knit hearts together and we became family with the staff and the people of the community.
